History
The gardens were inaugurated in 1877 by the Mayor of Albury with the planting of an English Elm tree. Originally a 50-acre government grant in 1864, the site was formally established to enrich the community. Significant developments include the extension of Smollett Street through the reserve and the installation of a bridge over Bungambrawatha Creek in the late 1880s. The gardens are now spread over some 46 hectares.
